gabs buckingham website

Gabriella Buckingham New Portfolio Website

gabs buckingham websiteLast year, my good friend and talented artist Gabriella Buckingham asked me to help her with designing and developing of her new portfolio based website. The driving force behind this was that Gabs had agreed to exhibit at the SURTEX show in New York City in May 2015! SURTEX is an important trade show for designers of patterns and illustrators to showcase their work to buyers of world famous brands.

For months we have been emailing and meeting up to discuss on how we wanted it to look and work. It wasn’t a chore for me, as it’s always lovely to spend time with Gabs talking about art, life, and children!

We both agreed that the new website had to be white, simple, and clean. Gab’s work is very colourful and bright (something I wish I could do for my own illustrations) and we wanted the emphasis to be on the pieces and not the website design. She was also in the process of reinvigorating her logo and brand, so it had to all tie in beautifully.

So, I set about creating the theme and structure and functionality and handed it over to Gabs to populate with her images and copy over a period of weeks. Gabs had to familiarise herself with a new content management system and upload new work as she produced it.

Gabriella BuckinghamI have to say that I love photography that has been used (well done Mr B). It really shows how much fun and creative Gab’s personality is and of course this shines through in her style of work.

I’m really pleased with the result and I think Gabs likes it too. It’s always a pleasure to work with other designers and artists and such an added bonus that it’s for a friend. I’m very proud of the website and I hope that it continues to adapt and grow with the business.

Ruby Wren Designs

Following my previous post about the new Ruby Wren logo, I am delighted to announce the brand new Ruby Wren Designs website and blog!

Hayley asked me to design and set up an ecommerce solution for her very stylish and unique range of eco greeting cards and stationery made from elephant poo. She also wanted a blog that was easy to use (I just love love love WP) and integrated into the shop side.

I have to say I am really pleased with how it has turned out. It certainly is one of the prettiest sites I have designed. It helped that Hayley was a very accommodating client (i.e. she went along with all my ideas). All my clients are lovely, beautiful people, but I am especially fond of those who don’t answer back…too often.

Hayely is going to be running special promotions during the first week in January, so be sure to visit Ruby Wren Designs each day and follow her blog for lots of other offers throughout the year!

Christmas stationery giveaway – winner

Thank you to all who took the time to leave a comment. I have enjoyed reading your thoughts and you have all helped reaffirm to me what Christmas should all be about.

Pomona – for reminding us that it’s not about consumerfest but giving out of love.

Louise – for reminding me that it is about a time to think about families who are all scattered across the globe.

Brenda – for reminding us that Christmas is a joyous time for grandparents as well as grandchildren!

Sew Scrumptious – for ‘Farmer Christmas’!

Michelle – for reminding me that the buildup is sometimes even more exciting than the event itself.

Sue – for the gift of over-eating and present rotation.

Krysia – for reminding me that Christmas is also about wonderful smells and fabulous foods.

Steph – for reminding me that it is a time for faith and reflection.

Aleximo – for making my mouth water with the thoughts of ‘decadent soft sponge chocolate roll’.

legyviel – for being such a fabulous daughter and I hope ‘Miss Crayons’ follows suit in the years to come.

Vicky – for reminding me that being thoughtful towards others and working together is always so much better.

Louise – for reminding me, that maybe I should get organised and make a list instead of winging it each year.

It was a tough decision, so tough that I am going to have a runner up. The winner of the cards and tags go to Vicky. Vicky recently got married and had her photos taken by the lovely Rosie Parsons which she kindly shared with the world. What can I say? I am a sucker for weddings and a big old romantic to boot. So congratulations to Vicky on both counts.

The runner up prize of a set of smaller tags goes to Sue, because I love the idea of the cats getting their own stockings!

I made some tweaks to the cards since taking the picture, insomuch that I have made the corners rounded, I think they look more finished. Hope you ladies like them. Please get in touch with your addresses!

Christmas stationery giveaway

I am giving away a matching set of five christmas cards and five gift tags. The set has been digitally designed and produced by me and will probably be a limited edition (as I won’t have time to make many more of these – children, artisans fair, cake eating etc. all seem to get in the way – bah-humbug).

The cards are made of very pretty pearlised thick card with matching envelopes and the gift tags mounted on thick card with raffia ties.

To enter, just tell me what epitomises Christmas for you and feel free to spread the word by linking back to the giveaway on your own blog.

For me, Christmas is about food (surprise surprise) and logistics. It’s worrying about how many are coming for dinner and did I order a big enough bird. It’s also about watching my children tear into the wrapping paper and sometimes prefering the paper to what’s actually inside.

Closing date 18th September 09.

If you can’t wait and want some tags now now now, you can purchase a similar set from my folksy shop.

Not boring business card holders – Giveaway

I have been experiementing with paper and boxes again. This time using paint swatch cards to make business card holders. I think they work really well. The card is strong and takes to creasing well. I tried co-ordinating tops and bottoms, but ‘Mr. Crayons’ said that the contrasting colours work better. I might have to agree with him on this occassion!

I’m going to give away FREE samples. Just leave a comment, not forgetting to include your email address and I’ll contact you for a mailing address.
